BRITISH COLLEGES |
||
For some students, studying in a Further Education College (F.E. College) may be more suitable than studying at a school. F.E. Colleges accept students from 16 yeas old upwards and generally have no maximum age. Boarding schools, however, will usually only accept students up to the age of 18 years. F.E. Colleges, therefore, can be very suitable for older students. F.E. Colleges provide an more open and informal environment than most schools - treating their students as young adults.
Most British F.E. Colleges provide A-level courses. Some also provide GCSE courses. Many F.E. Colleges provide special pre-university courses - usually called Foundation Courses. A number of British F.E. Colleges have special International Departments which provide special facilities for overseas students. These colleges can also provide English classes for students who need them. Only a few F.E. Colleges have their own residential accommodation. Most provide host family accommodation. F.E. Colleges receive finance from the British Government and their fees are generally low. There are also some excellent privately owned colleges in Britain which provide similar courses - most of these also have residential accommodation. |
